If you, like many others, have been eagerly waiting for the release of the next version of the popular Open-Source Messenger client, Gaim, you should be happy to know that the team isn’t sleeping on the job, but instead, are still adding features and improving the program as much as they can.
As for the release date for Gaim 2.0, I’m afraid that none has been given yet, however, from doing a quick scan to the blog I found out that the next Beta (which will be the 4th) will be the last one before the final release. And it should, hopefully, be released very soon.
In the meantime, if you can’t bother waiting, you can try out the latest compiled builds for Windows (32bit) from this site. However, you must understand that the SVN builds can be very unstable and the Gaim doesn’t advise anyone to try them. But from my experience, I don’t think you’ll have many problems with them, when I used to download them a few months back I never had many stability problems with them.

1I prefer Gaim over other messaging clients, especially with the tabbed windows and message logging. Sadly, Gaim doesn’t have a native OS X version, so when I’m using the Mac, I used Adium instead (which is incidentally based on libgaim, the core of Gaim).

2Well, unless you use multiple messaging protocols, you can use Messenger Plus! Live which is an add-on for Messenger. Among other features it enables tabs for the messaging windows.

3Using Gaim almost exclusively now. One issue. No flashing of window when new message comes in. Preferences set to flash, but still nothing. Is this a known issue? Fixes?
