   What I’m really interested in is how this translates into profit. From what I gather, Sony loses money on every PSP sold while NDS is sold at a profit. Given equal sales of both machines and equal licensing fees(I’m not sure on this one), it means that Sony has to sell more games to break even with NDS. So do PSP owners buy more games than NDS owners?

   You can’t count the games only. The memory sticks are probably a big slice the PSP’s proffit also.

   Grittith is right. Memory stick is generating
   considerable amount of profit for sony. (Ironically enough, lots of memory stick were sold to play illegally ISOs which brings down sale of actually UMDs :-) )

   Xbox had already failed miserably in asia market. Japan, Korea(especially Korea)…
   With almost unlimited scale of cash Microsoft has, it will be interesting to see what they will do to boost up the sales. Altough Japan and Korea market themselves aren’t nearly as big as US, Xbox needs to prove its potential
   in these two countries to enter Chinese market
   (which is as big as US). Getting approval in Japanese and Korean market might just make Xbox easier to consume Chinese market…

   That is insane that they can still be selling 80,000 units of a console that is almost six years old.

   Yeah but the 360 literally just came out. Consider how long the other consoles have been out on the market. They’ve had plenty of time to consolidate their games and get ready for xmas, whereas the 360 was making it’s debut. I’d be interested to see how the 360 will be doing THIS christmas season.

   @evilKat: Usually with most consoles japanese people will camp outside the shops waiting for dawn to arrive. Yes, similar to what happened in the states with the 360, but in a much larger scale.

   From a few reports I read from the opening day, most people that came into the game stores were looking for another console, and since the 360 was there they gave it a test-drive, but that was pretty much it.

   Even the ill-fated Dreamcast had an astonishing launch.

   Yes, certainly true that the 360 had a very luke-warm launch in Japan. But heh, did u expect anything more in Japan? You know they’re going to stick with Sony and Nintendo if they can and go overseas only if there is a really compelling reason to do so (i.e really great games for instance).

   But again, I said what I did earlier as a counter point to comparing the Xbox 360’s sales figures to the already well-established console plats.

   A better figure to compare the holiday season numbers would be to check the DEBUT holiday season numbers for the above mentioned platforms.

   Having said that, the 360 is NEVR going to do as well as Sony or Nintendo in Japan.

    My opinion is that the DS is better; the Psp has impressed me with its sells. I use to be a play station fan but then I had seen what play station was really doing. Most of it is copying Nintendo. Nintendo did take risks to give the people what they wanted and its 3d graphics. Sony just copied and never took risks. I do think psp is cool but it has too many gimmicks and people don’t use them. You can see movies and its cool but people already have DVD players at home. Another gimmick is that the psp has mp3 but people had other ways to listen to music for a cheaper price. Another put down is the movies cost 30.00$ when you can get them for 20.00.It’s also very expensive the DS is cool and they don’t over price the DS. Ds has better games, and I do think psp has better wireless connection than the DS but the new Nintendo DS Light is coming and DS will stay in competition and has better will have a better wireless system and battery, then the psp. PSP was never to be enjoyed is was only about the money for them, Ds was meant for enjoyment and even with the new DS coming out it still wont be as much as a psp. I don’t know if Nintendo will close but I don’t see the PS in the future. Mario did help Nintendo a lot and still does and really impressed me with Mario Kart Ds that game is not great is Awesome!!!! I can’t stop playing that game. If you have money you should but psp but it won’t be as much fun with a DS. I recommend the DS just because is much more then just fun. DS is way better for me. The Nintendo Revolution looks like a hit already. Some may say the psp is better and its cool with me, but the DS is really fun I definitely am going to get the new DS Light. I know people in Mexico and they agree my cousins bought me my DS for my birthday and I liked it.

    Impressive comments although Im currently in my bedroom browsing with my psp. However I would beg to differ, the functionality of the psp definitely beats the competion-sorry ds fans-however its a bit pricy bcos its a relatively new technology, what good is it buying two consoles-ds~ and an ipod when you have it all for just $199.

    And besides, thats only because DS was bought up so much it became out of stock!And if DS is such a gimmick then how come it’s doing tons alot better than the PSP!Then that makes PSP a gimmick too!Ha!I love DS!!!!

    He aint making that up… its just as he says…

    Peaple just cant see the full potential behind the PSP because they are hiding behind their useless doublescreen :P

    And don’t tell me that I should play NDS before I judge bout it…

    I have both the NDS and the PSP, I bought the NDS because of SM64 and AnotherCode…

    Sm64 was nice, AnotherCode thought was a real goner…

    I tested several other NDS games of my friends… they are pure shit… I cant understand what shall be so special bout Meteos for example…

    Later, when the PSP got released… I bought myself a 1.5 FW PSP on Ebay… Woah…

    I thought I was God myself…

    I can have 2 to 6 games stored on my Duostick whenever I want… I even have a Second Custom FW installed ;-)

    And I can playback AVI, MPG, whatever I want… just fine! :D

    And nothings better than watching a Movie while having a long Bus-Tour in front of ya… Or showing funny Movieclips to Friends… ;-)

    You all got no Idea… The PSP easily pawnzors the NDS…

    I play Dynasty Warriors 2nd Evolution (awesome) - and laugh at the DS because of its EXTREMELY cheap port of DynastyWarriors x’D

    I have a 4 gig hard drive for my Ds yes thats right 4 GIG! i can play everything the psp can and more. mp3, mp4s,and even emulators of most consoles. A standard DS rom is say 20-40mb thats hundreds of games on my DS

    The Ds sucks all it has is games and Pictochat I mean come on people do you really wanna waste $250.00 on games and pictochat people really dont get it your throwing $250.00 down the drain towards WHAT? Animal Crossing Tamogotchi Mariocart I mean get real nintendo dick suckers .Doesnt gayer then that on PSP you can Play games listen to music watch movies view photos and slideshows browse the internet msn messanger TV and just alittle message to all you runescape fans if you can establish a connection between your router and PSP you can play Runescape so dont buy a Ds and to nintendo you guys are Japense dick sucking losers get a life and to sony your future of gaming.
