Just when Sony seemed to nearly catch up with the PSP homebrew community, a retired developer emerged from the ashes and released the source code of possibly the best (and best known) homebrew program for the PSP; his infamous UMD Emulator.
Also, he mentioned that he only quit the scene because he was tired of the game Sony was constantly playing with the developers, instead of supporting them. In any case, developers are now free to use his code and improve it, and I won’t be surprised if soon it will support 2.0+ games in a few days, so look forward to it.
Due to the horrible and sometimes stupid comments on older articles regarding UMD Emulator I will close the comments on this article to avoid abuse if I notice the slightest sidetrack.
If you planned on asking if it will work on 2.0+ PSPs, no it won’t and no, there is no downgrader for PSPs with firmware over 2.0.

7Humma Kavula…we need you now more than ever. please come back. There is a new custom firmware called 3.02 OE-B which is really incredible in that it allows people to take their old PS1 discs and mod them to be played on the PSP without the stupid Sony store. HOWEVER, two very important apps no longer work under this new firmware, IR Shell and FASTLOADER. Fastloader is my favorite homebrew app EVER. Please make a new version compatible to this new custom firmware.
