Hard to believe it, but we are halfway through the 8th generation of console gaming, which means 9th generation console gaming is already being worked on. First things first, am I the only one who think that gaming reached its maximum in 7th generation? 8 has been good, but there is still yet to be that ONE game that sells millions of systems. But what is going to be in-store for us in the 9th generation of console gaming? We have some ideas, some things we think we WILL see, some things we HOPE we see, and some ideas in general.
Here is what we really want from a 9th generation gaming console.
We all know VR and augmented reality is the next big step in home gaming. The idea of shooting zombies that walk around the corner in YOUR OWN HOUSE seems like it will be pretty fantastic (and freaky) to experience. We know this stuff is already getting worked on big time, but to what level should we expect?
What we are saying is, if every game takes place in our house, games will get boring. Perhaps places will pop up that are arenas (like a laser tag arena) that are MADE for augmented reality games. That would be sick, just bring your headset.
What is cooler, VR or augmented reality? That is tough because not too many of us have spent a great deal of time with either medium. But we know they are really trying to start pushing VR on us now, so you know for a fact by 9th generation of gaming it will be cheaper and more readily available.
The idea of strapping on a head set and suddenly being able to fully explore space or to fully explore the depths of the ocean (or a haunted house) just seems like the next probable and probably awesome step in gaming. Only thing is, if we play a game like the (now extinct) P.T on something like that, will it give us a literal heart attack?
Still trying it, regardless.
Sorry people, but multiplayer is whack. Run around and play guns with your friends. I know games like Rocket League change that up a bit, but for the most part, they are kill or be killed games. So how about in the 9th generation, we see some REAL leaps forward when it comes to multiplayer? Not just two teams capturing each other’s flags and fragging each other. How about something like, two teams are deployed to a site that has bombs on it, and one group tries to set off bomb while other group fights them off and tries to disarm bomb?
You know what I mean, something all different. A different approach to the multiplayer that has basically been the exact same since f*cking Bomberman.
Sleeker, Smaller, Sexier System
I know it sounds like an odd request, but if you read above, this shit sounds like it will be clunky as hell. Eye wear, augmented reality wear, controllers. Thing is, we want gaming consoles that look good in our home theaters. We know that sounds dumb, but we really do. A purple box does not blend well with modern tech (looking at you, Gamecube).
In other words, make it look sleek and futuristic, so if it is lying around people are more likely to be intrigued by it than distracted by it. Yes, a sleek, sexy, AND powerful system is completely possible. Get on this shit, Sony.
The real problem with everything I have listed above is simple: I am thinking inside the box. I do not create consoles so I am only going on what I know. What would really be the most badass 9th generation console would be something NONE OF US see coming. Some massive leap in the tech and software that just ends up presenting games to us in a way we have never seen or played them before.
What that is, I do not know. Maybe there will be some projector tech that can change the way the interiors of your home look to fit a certain game. Who knows. But the main point about all this is, we want something new, brave, and something that takes console gaming to a whole new level. Blow our minds or GTFO.
