SDCC 2017 – Brendon Small Releases Galaktikon Comic and New Album

August 1, 2017 by Doug Kline Leave a Comment

SDCC 2017 - Brendon Small's Galaktikon comic

Brendon Small is a stand up comedian. He’s a writer of scripts and music. He makes cartoons about childhood and metal. He makes his own brand of metal, formerly as Dethklok from the animated series Metalocalypse, and currently a new band/music concept album called Galaktikon. And now Galaktikon has a sequel album, Galaktikon II: Become the Storm, and a comic book available from Eric Powell’s Albatross Funnybooks. That’s a lot for one man.

Brendon is nothing if not ambitious. But somehow he manages to do it all. He even had some time to sit down with me at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 to talk about his upcoming comic and album. But first, I had to get something out of the way. Metalocalypse – What happened? Is it really gone for good?

SDCC 2017 - Brendon Small's Galaktikon comic metallic variant With Metalocalypse and the brutal metal avatar of Dethklok behind him, how was he going to fulfill that need to keep playing? The answer came even before Metalocalypse fully came to an end. He released the first Galaktikon album in 2012 and the desire to release a sequel has been brewing in him ever since. That desire will be fulfilled August 25, 2017. I got an early listen to the album and I can tell you that it’s exactly what you expect it and want it to be, especially if you’re a fan of Dethklok’s heavier stuff.

Of course, in the meantime, why not also release a comic book series about the world and the characters that inhabit these two albums? You can go to your local comic shop tomorrow, August 2nd, and pick up the first issue. Brendon and I continued to talk about what went into the making of the new album and the comic and what the future might hold for a live performance that might just outdo his Dethklok show on the deck of an aircraft carrier at San Diego Comic-Con 2012.

And if you want a taste of what’s to come, here’s the first full track from the upcoming Galaktikon II: Become the Storm. Ask for the comic at your local comic shop or get it and the new album on the official site later this month.
