While most Star Wars fan are gearing up for the release of the prequel spinoff this year, Rogue One, a great many of us wanna-be Jedi already have our geek sights set on Star Wars episode 8. We all want to know what Kylo Ren’s training will be, how Rei and Luke connect, and where this amazing reboot-relaunch is going to head next. Good news as Carrie Fisher recently made some revelations about the script itself for part VIII, as well as slipped in a joke about why she and Han just couldn’t manage to make things work. Damn wookie:
Girls, I know you don’t want your husband smuggling, do you? [And] hanging out with the hairy guy too often. I think there are a lot of problems with that.
Fair enough once you really think about it. She also made a joke about how Han “didn’t take her to hyperspace enough” which was a thinly veiled sexual comment that forever changed the way I see Han Solo. Then she continued, talking this time about episode 8 and the darker, deeper places it is going to take us fans than before, though darker would not be the word Fisher would use. She hints that this next chapter in this science fiction opus will be a bit heavier and tougher to take, but it is all very necessary for the story and moves it forward in a very organic way that does not baby the audience or undermine the things we will witness.
In other words, the next movie will be our Empire Strikes Back, and as most of all of us know, that is the best Star Wars movie ever, so to even be able to come close to that would be amazing, dark story or not. And honestly, sometimes we NEED to get thru the darkness to remind us how much we truly need the light.
It’s called balancing the force.
