Talented artist Paul Pape makes his living crafting three-dimensional sculptures on a custom-order basis. Most of his sculptures are for video game customers, and as you can see here, he’s done a lot of Miis and Xbox Live avatars, as well as some Sackboys and WoW creatures.
But his latest item is so cool, it transcends all geek boundaries and appeals to every geek on the most basic level. And as we all know, that level is Star Wars.
Pape is making a limited run of 200 “Custom Carbonites” available before Christmas, and it just might be the ultimate gift for the geek who has everything. A Custom Carbonite is you or someone you love sculpted into Han Solo’s iconic Carbonite freezing slab from Empire Strikes Back. All you do is take a full-body photo of yourself in the pose of your choice — go with the classic hands-in-the-air, or get willy-nilly and vogue in some newfangled way — and email the photo to Mr. Pape, along with your payment.
His Custom Carbonites sell for $50 plus shipping, and measure 1.75″W x 4.25″H x .75″D, so they’re on the small side, like a Christmas tree ornament or a paperweight. But come on — having your own likeness frozen in Carbonite?!? You can’t put a price tag on that.
The one caveat: Pape fears he might get a cease & desist order from Big Brother Lucas any day now, so if you want one of these, you better order quick. He promises that all orders received before said C&D arrives will be fulfilled.
