Remember those rubber stamps that were all the rage in the late 80s/early 90s? Well, you can forget them. In this day and age, branding irons are what you want. And they’re easy to make, too.
Want to put your initials everywhere? That’s easy. How about your house crest? Sure. You can even have the bat sign. Whatever you want.
All you need is a Bic lighter, your idea for a brand, and this Instructable.
Here are the main points to give you an idea of what to expect:
- have a Bic lighter ready
- choose your image
- reverse your image using Autodesk Pixlr (no need to explain why you have to do this, right?)
- upload your image to Shapeways.
That last bit is the “tricky” part – not because you have to create the branding iron yourself. It’s exactly the opposite. Shapeways is a service that will take your design and will 3D print your design using stainless steel.
While you’re not exactly doing the 3D printing, you still have a hand in the process, so that counts as semi-DIY, yes?
Here’s a video for other inspiration.
Before you go and have your own branding iron made, make sure you’re not going to be stupid and burn yourself. Because, you know, they’re hot.
