“Buy geeky stuff. Make the world a better place.”
Said in utter seriousness with all the sincerity in our hearts.
Geeks Doing Good is a campaign run by Worldbuilders, a group founded by one of my favorite authors, Patrick Rothfuss. Does not ring a bell? Check his books out, and I assure you – after reading The Name of the Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear, and The Slow Regard of Silent Things, you’ll be ringing that bell for the last book of the trilogy.
Now that I’ve had my fangirl moment (albeit a sedate one), it’s time to urge you to participate in the Geeks Doing Good campaign.
Why should you help out?
At the same time, you get some awesome geek stuff for your donation. And, if you’re a fan of Patrick’s work, you’ll be in for really awesome perks. Yes, I know. Too much awesome.
Even if you’re not a fan, there are perks that cater to any geek.
In any case, they’re perks. They aren’t the main reasons to back the campaign. We’re giving you a nudge to donate because you’ll be helping people – for real. (Visit Worldbuilders to discover all they’ve accomplished over the years.)
But, just to give you a glimpse of the perks anyway…
- $5 gets you a digital postcard and a chance to win a JoCo Cruise for two. That’s – you know what’s coming next – only several cents more than a Venti Coffee Frappuccino at Starbucks!
- $10 gets you a bar of Auri’s Sunny Summer Soap. This one, I’m getting for sure. Oh, and if you’re wondering who Auri is, read this (or get the books). You’ll be mesmerized.
- $35 gets you a mystery box – Buncha Games Bundle.
…and there’s a whole lot more – a stoneware Eolian mug, customized name rings, body sprays, magic night light…
Looking at all of them, I honestly wish I could afford to give more.
Don’t take my word for it, though. Visit the campaign page and give what you’ve got. It runs till June 10, so there’s still time to indulge your geeky self and give a little something to those who need it.
Geek out. Help out. Be part of Geeks Doing Good.
Here’s a short video which will shed more light on the project.
