If you have not seen any of Pes’ stop motion work, you are about to be blown away. The man is an absolute genius who uses everyday items in extraordinary ways utilizing frame by frame stop motion animation to tell incredibly visual stories and little vignettes. In this example, Pes recreates a great many arcade game death scenes, but does it by using things you would never suspect. A.k.A everything he could find.
As seen sloppily above, I have dabbled in stop motion (horribly, that two second clip took 674 man hours) and I can say this with all confidence about stop motion animation: it is truly a painstaking passion project for anyone who does it, and no one does it better than Pes. Also, like me, a great many of you grew up in arcades, too, so this video will hit all the perfect retro notes. You will laugh, you will cry, you will want to play Frogger again.
And after you run through that gamut of emotions, go check out Pes’ website and watch some of his other stuff. It is really a trip and blows the mind when you stop to ponder how much time each of these mini-movies must have taken him to make.
Amazing stuff, truly.
