Fictional mechanical characters are very popular amongst geek. Yes, The General Lee is as much a character in The Dukes of Hazzard as Daisy Duke is. Same goes for Ecto-1 in Ghostbusters and several other movies and cartoons. There is always new fan designs to be found based on popular cars, robots, characters, etc.
Artist Brandon Ortwein has a thing for cars. In November I wrote about a design by him, It Would Have Been Cooler As A Van. A poster containing several cars but as a van instead.
Brandon got creative again with a couple of cars, planes and robots. He imagined that the cars, planes and robots where sent to a body shop to get fixed, but the mechanic messed up with the body parts. This results in funny mix ups such as, The General Lee with an Ecto-1 door, Optimus Prime with C-3PO’s arm and C-3PO with Optimus Prime’s arm.
Robocop and R2-D2
The General Lee and Ecto-1
X-Wing and Top Gun
These are only three pieces from a set of nine. You can view the rest and in larger resolutions in The Body Shop Mix Ups Flickr Set.
Just like Brandon’s previous designs, you can buy several items with the prints on it. Couple of the items are, iPhone cases, laptop skins, t-shirts, art prints, etc.
Side note: It’s nice to see Robocop again. You would think it’s almost done and forgotten. I would love to see a new Robocop movie.
