The words in their website logo sum it up nicely: “We make cartoons.” If you’ve watched an animated series on Cartoon Network, particularly Adult Swim, or any number of networks over the past decade or more, you’ve enjoyed the work of Titmouse Animation from founder Chris Prynoski, known simply as Chris P to his friends and colleagues.
Venture Bros, Metalocalypse, Son of Zorn, Superjail!, Megas XLR, and even the main titles for The Osbornes. They’re the shows a lot of us grew up on or at least watched as adults and then just never really grew up as an unintended consequence. I hopped in the roving RV again this year at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, just as I did last year, but this time I recorded this for all of you to hear as we made our way through the city. Along the way we picked up Jody Schaeffer, co-creator of Megas XLR and the voice behind the Titmouse “chirp” at the end of each show.
If you take a few moments to listen to the conversation above, talking to Chris P is probably the easiest, most laid back interview you could have with the nicest guy in animation (probably. I don’t know. I’ve not met EVERY animator) and you can hear it when he talks about the projects he’s working on now. He’s excited, but not TOO excited. Living the RV Life is good. This is a guy making animated shows for a living, gathering fans young and old with shows like “Niko and the Sword of Light” (on Amazon) mainly for kids (but adults can enjoy it too) and “Big Mouth” (on Netflix) which is VERY much for adults, and they probably don’t even know his name. But they don’t have to and I doubt it bothers him much either way. He and his team are known around the world, by those who love animation, for making quality animated series, movies, shorts, and promos, like the recently released Rick and Morty “Exquisite Corpse” video, made to promote the upcoming season.
You can check out “Big Mouth“, starring Nick Kroll, exclusively on Netflix starting September 29th, 2017.
And you can follow the continuing adventures of “Niko and the Sword of Light” exclusively on Amazon Video, which launched July 15th, 2017.
